We Turned 1!

Last night was our first anniversary bash at Urbana where we sipped on wine, engaged in great conversation and enjoyed delicious pizzas! The summer has been very busy for everyone so it had been a while since our last event. It was very casual where we celebrated all the good times we've had in the past and brainstormed new ideas for future events.

Despite the rainy weather, we had a great turnout!

Also, some local companies donated gifts to hand out to our members. Thanks to VA Wine in My Pocket for giving everyone a free iPhone/iPad app so we can navigate VA wine country! Also thanks to WineWear for donating creative sleeves for gifting wine. Everyone appreciated the gifts, I mean who doesn't love free stuff?!

1 Year Anniversary Bash!

It's been a great first year for us. Growing from only a handful of people to a list of over 70! Come out and celebrate with us at Urbana in Dupont where we will have our own private space! Happy hour specials will go until 7pm featuring $5 wines by the glass plus $2 oysters and half priced pizza.

We will be having door prizes as well so get there early to put your name in the pot! Door prizes are provided by Virginia Wine in My Pocket app, Zola Wine Kitchen and WineWear!

NEWS FLASH: We have a logo!

So after playing around on publisher for a little bit, I came up with our first ever logo! Now granted, this is not professionally done but hey, it'll do! I figured this group has turned into a lot more than I ever expected over the past year, it's about time we have something of our own! Check it out:

Speaking of which, we will be having our 1 year anniversary bash at Urbana in August!! Look for details to come. As of now, we have our own space, door prizes will be given away and your newest wino friends will be there! Don't miss out!

Food & Wine Pairing: Success!

Our June event was a great food and wine pairing held at Jessica's home in Arlington. We had 8 great winos attend, each of which prepared a dish. We had a wide range of dishes from crostinis to flank steak to asian bbq. Seems like everyone had the same idea by bringing a savory dish paired with a Sauvignon Blanc. Needless to say, everything paired perfectly. Check out our pics below (taken by Emily Neifeld):

Rose on the Roof

What better way to ring in Spring than sipping Rose on the Roof! Last Thursday, some veterened Young Winos along with some new faces all gathered at a condo rooftop near Chinatown for conversation, snacks and a wide variety of Roses.

Everyone brought a bottle to share. Luckily, we had a range of wines from New and Old World, different styles and different shades of pink! We all enjoyed ourselves thoroughly and it was great to meet some new potential Winos. We hope to see you at the next one!

Young Winos will be wandering around and sampling wines throughout the evening. Find us and say hi! We suggest getting there as early as you can, because the store gets packed.

Also, take advantage of the special deals Bell offers during the tasting. You get 15% off mixed cases and 20% off solid cases during the evening.

Headin' South: Wines of the Southern Hemisphere Tasting

Tired of this wintry mix crap? So are we. So we're heading south to warm up--and to sample some delicious wines from the Southern hemisphere! 

Join us for our next in-home wine tasting on Thursday, March 10th, at 7 pm. We'll provide some delicious wines from south of the equator and some tasty snacks. All you need to bring is a bottle of wine from NZ, Australia, South Africa or South America and an $8 or $9 contribution. Guests are welcome too, so please feel free to pass this along to anyone else who is a) young and b) a wino.
